The Good / The AirSense 10 AutoSet CPAP Machine with Optional HumidAir Heated Humidifier is a sleek designed, user-friendly machine. This is a basic fixed-pressure device with a water chamber with a built-in heating plate as well as other features, such as SmartStart, AutoRamp, and cellular connectivity…and for those light sleepers: it’s known for being quiet!
The Bad / The AirSense line isn’t cheap. This is probably the only bad thing about this machine. The sound level and weight ratings aren’t perfect, but this model is still considered very quiet and pretty light compared to most auto CPAP machines in the market.
The Bottom Line / It’s no wonder that we rated the AirSense 10 AutoSet CPAP Machine the second best auto CPAP machine of 2017. Even though a bit pricey, it’s well worth the investment for quiet, quality therapy.
The AirSense 10 AutoSet CPAP is the lighter and more advanced version of the S9 line of the machines. The built-in humidifier makes it lighter than the previous models and offers custom humidification. Because this is an auto CPAP, it offers more features than the AirSense 10 CPAP. It is packed with a variety of features, such as the AutoRamp, Climate Control, Expiratory Pressure Relief, Smart Start, built-in cellular technology, and Air View, that make the users’ experience a comfortable and convenient one. It has additional functional features, such as central apnea detection, RERA reporting, Cheyne-Stokes respiration detection, and response, in comparison to the AirSense 10 CPAP.
Lightweight and quiet, if you are looking for an auto CPAP machine, this may be the fit for you. CPAP users are generally satisfied with the advanced functions of this machine that makes restful sleep possible and the integrated modern-day technology that opens up a world of convenience at your finger tip.
This model was rated the second best CPAP machines in 2017. Let’s explore the reasons why…
The AirSense 10 AutoSet CPAP with HumidAir Heated Humidifier (with the optional ClimateLineAir Heated Tube) has all the features that you will need. Let’s explore the key features…
ResMed’s advanced AutoSet algorithm provides effective, comfortable therapy. Pressure gradually increases over the duration of the flow limitations and decreases accordingly. The AutoSet Response is also available to make pressure increases even more gentle. The AirSense 10 AutoSet can be set to automatically adjust or to a single pressure mode.
The AirSense 10 models boast of the AutoRamp technology. This feature enables the machine to sense when the user is awake or asleep, and when it senses that the user is asleep, it will increase to the full prescribed pressure comfortably. This setting allows the user to fall asleep easily.
The AirSense 10 CPAP Machine has a built-in heating plate so the water chamber can be directly attached to the machine for a minimal footprint. The humidifier can be set to 9 different settings: off, 1 (lowest level of humidification) to 8 (highest level of humidification). The ClimateLineAir is an optional integrated heated tube to retain the temperature of the whole air circuit. The Auto Climate Control mode will sense the room temperature and adjust the level of humidification delivered to the mask. The ClimateLineAir offers more controlled heat, which helps avoid rainout condensation.
The SlimLine tube is only 15mm in diameter, making it very light and flexible. It works well with smaller, lightweight masks because it is less likely to pull on the mask and break the cushion seal. It should be noted, however, that the SlimLine tubing is not heated.
The SmartStart technology allows the user to just put on the mask, and the machine will start therapy as soon as the user starts to breathe. When the mask is taken off, the machine will sense that the user is not using the machine and turn off automatically. This technology is a step above from the “Start”/”Stop” button, catering to a user’s comfort and convenience once again.

The Expiratory Pressure Relief (EPR) carries out the right treatment for the patient during inhalation and reduces pressure during exhalation. Therapy is made more comfortable with this feature. Breathing out against full prescribed pressure can be uncomfortable, but EPR helps by lowering the pressure by a set amount on exhalation.
With this feature, you can access therapy data and be able to troubleshoot remotely with the remote access feature. You can now connect to ResMed’s new cloud-based management system (AirView) with the built-in wireless technology and be able to change the machine settings and troubleshoot remotely.
Here is how the AirSense 10 AutoSet with HumidAir Heated Humidifier compares with the other (also) advanced auto CPAP machines on the market…
The DreamStation is the AirSense 10’s close competitor in CPAP machines. The DreamStation Auto did rank higher in our “Best Auto CPAP Machines 2017” ranking, but these two models are very similar in that they both are packed with various advanced features. The DreamStation is responsive, informative, easy-to-use and connects remotely to your care team. It is equipped with features, such as A-Flex Pressure Relief, Bluetooth, Opti-Start Technology, and SmartRamp. The notable differences between the DreamStation and the AirSense is that the DreamStation is slightly lighter and quieter.
The ICON Auto CPAP Machine is significantly cheaper than the AirSense 10 AutoSet. It’s a simple, user-friendly machine equipped with advanced auto-adjusting algorithm, ThermoSmart, and SensAwake Technology. However, with its cheaper price, it does lack other features some users may find useful. Also, the ICON Auto CPAP is heavier and louder than the AirSense 10 Auto.
At $279, the AirStart 10 Auto is significantly cheaper than the AirSense 10 Auto. It offers essential features on ResMed’s industry-leading Air10 platform. However, the AirStart does not offer wireless communication capabilities, which is important to some users and some advanced features, such as the SmartStart. Similarly to the AirSense, however, the AirStart includes SD card-to-cloud functionality with AirView. Also, it has the integrated HumidAir Heated Humidifier and the expiratory pressure relief (EPR) with Easy-Breathe technology to make therapy a more comfortable and natural experience.
