Health Sqyre Editors' Rating

The Good  /  The Simplus full face CPAP mask has features like RollFit Seal, ErgoForm Headgear, and frame with ‘easy clip’, which are all designed to increase comfort. The air diffuser also keeps the mask quiet.

The Bad  / A couple of people have complained on forums online that the mask hurts the bridge of their nose, and the Simplus has relatively high air leakage rates.

The Bottom Line  /  A pretty good mask, at a pretty good price. There are some newer masks (like the AirTouch F20) which seem to have more comfort features, but those products come with a much higher cost.

The Simplus Full Face CPAP Mask is Fisher & Paykel’s best quality full face mask – a huge upgrade from the Forma full face mask, their (pretty bad) previous mask.

This mask is equipped with various comfort features, and has a pretty sturdy headgear and frame. Moreover, the mask is extremely quiet and has an effective diffuser to make sure you don’t blow air towards anyone lying next to you during the night. The mask is also pretty lightweight, making it comfortable to wear and convenient to carry around.

Simplus full face CPAP Mask Product Features

Easy Frame

The low-profile frame is stable, durable, small and ensures a clear line of sight. This is a one-frame-fits-all-seal-sizes and has an ‘Easy-Clip’ Frame attachment which makes it easy to attach and detach the headgear from the frame for cleaning. You can also tighten the headgear using convenient velcro straps.

ErgoForm Headgear

The headgear, which is very sturdy and breathable, self-locates high on the rear of the head allowing for a wide range of head movement (side-to-side, up and down) without mask dislodgement. The 360 ball-and-socket structure of the hose connector also helps minimize the chances of mask dislodgement.

RollFit Seal

We think this is the coolest feature of the Simplus (see below for a GIF of the RollFit in action!). The one piece seal ‘rolls’ back and forth on the bridge of the nose. This automatic adjustment minimizes pressure on the bridge of the nose.

Air Diffuser

Diffuses the air in such a way that any draft or noise is minimized. The Simplus is known to be a very quiet mask!

Simplus full face mask Compared With…

ComfortGel Blue Full Face CPAP Mask

Although the ComfortGel Blue Full Face mask has been around for a while, it’s still a close competitor to the Simplus. The ComfortGel Blue full face mask has a gel cushion, which may be more comfortable for some users. It also has something called SST (sure seal technology) which is supposed to help the mask conform to your face better. Similar to the simplus, the Comfortgel also has forehead support, but is less Tv friendly (less clear line of vision).

AirFit F20 CPAP Mask

The AirFit has similar features to the Simplus. However, it has its own fancy word for their cushion technology (InfinitySeal cushion) and also has magnetic clips (which isn’t necessarily easier to use than the Simplus’ clips). A number of people reported experiencing less air leakages and better range of vision with the AirFit, but the Simplus has a more flexible elbow that swivels with more freedom. The AirFit is significantly more expensive though, so if price is a major factor, you may want to consider the Simplus over the AirFit.

AirTouch F20 CPAP Mask

Although its a very similar product to the AirFit, the selling point of the AirTouch F20 is its memory foam cushion – which has received pretty good reviews overall, online. As mentioned earlier, one of the Simplus’ cons is that it has relatively high air leakage rates. So, although it depends on the user’s sleeping/breathing behavior and face shape, if you’ve experienced annoying air leakage problems in the past or you want to be sure to minimize air leakages, you may want to consider the AirTouch. It is significantly pricier than the Simplus, though.

What CPAP Users are Saying About the Simplus Full Face Mask

The Simplus seems to have lots of nice features compared to the others on the market I’ve tried. The top adjustment strap is great and the clips are designed for the not so nimble to use, so easy. The nozzle for the hose not only swivels but pivots so I can have it above the blankets or other angles to make it easier to control the hose. It’s the most comfortable mask I have ever worn.
  – Graham Y.

A positive review from someone who totally fell in love with the Simplus. They nicely summarized some of the main comfort/convenience features of the mask.

I got so sick of the F&P Simplus with that hard plastic at the top. I used to have to put on two bandaids, foam tape and a piece of medical tape just to stop the dents. Then I’d end up with a horrible red spot and my nose would start to peel.
  – Alicia T.

Ouch! This user didn’t have as much of a positive experience – and there are some slightly similar reviews that complain about the contact point with the bridge of the nose. HOWEVER, we suspect this has more to do with nose/face shape, rather than ‘bad design’ – the RollFit was designed to prevent this problem in the first place!

Got a Simplus a couple of weeks ago and haven’t looked back. The seal around my nose is far better. This is about the best mask i have tried for people with a high nose bridge.
  – Kramer P.

Just to show both sides of the coin, here’s a review that contradicts the previous one. This person claims that the Simplus mask complements people with a high nose bridge well – we don’t know if this is true, but it worked for this user!

I started with the Simplus Full Face, but quit after developing an eye infection which was believed to have started by the air blowing around my eyes.
  – Len B.

Yikes! An example of a risk associated with air leakages – though, this user probably should have addressed the problem far earlier, when they first began experiencing the leaks. Air leaks DO happen with the Simplus for some users.

Final Thoughts

The Simplus is definitely equipped with some great features/technology designed to increase comfort during your CPAP therapy. Although it has received some criticism with regards to air leakages and/or marks on the bridge of the nose, this is probably dependent on your face/nose shape. The price is pretty good too, compared to some similar models like the AirFit and AirTouch F20 – so overall, a very good quality mask.
