ResMed AirMini AutoSet Travel CPAP Review:
The Smallest CPAP Travel Machine in the Market
The Good / As the smallest CPAP machine on the market, the ResMed AirMini AutoSet CPAP Machine has a waterless humidifier, smartphone compatibility via Bluetooth, low level of noise, ramp feature, and reduced pressure during exhalation.
The Bad / Because of it’s various features, the AirMini is not as cheap as some of the other portable CPAP machines on the market. It is also only compatible with three ResMed masks at the moment.
The Bottom Line / If you want value for money, the AirMini is the way to go – although it’s a little pricey, it’s got a myriad of features that are sure to be useful during travel.
Steven is a 56-year-old medical researcher. He suffers from sleep apnea.
Because he works for an international company, he frequently has to travel to various places in Europe and Asia for business trips. However, he cannot carry around his CPAP machine at home, and he didn’t trust the portable CPAP machines on the market; they were too clunky, uncomfortable, and lacking in features.
Then, the smallest CPAP machine available, the ResMed AirMini, came along.
If you suffer from sleep apnea, you must understand some of the same problems Steve has experienced, whether it be the pain of dealing with sleep apnea, the problem sleep apnea impose on your personal and/or professional life, or the lack of portability of the traditional CPAPs.
In this ResMed AirMini CPAP Review, I will touch on:
1. A closer look at the advantages and disadvantages of the ResMed AirMini
2. Comparisons with similar portable CPAP products
3. Other comments on the product
After reading this RedMed AirMini CPAP Review, you will be able to make an informed decision on whether the AirMini is the best-suited portable CPAP machine for you.
ResMed AirMini Travel CPAP Product Features
AutoRamp with sleep onset detection delivers a low pressure to help patients fall asleep with ease. Once the patient is asleep, it comfortably ramps up the pressure to the prescribed level. To do this, the AutoRamp system will increase the pressure in increments of 5 until your machine has reached the optimal level prescribed.
Expiratory pressure relief (EPR) maintains the optimal treatment for the patient during inhalation and reduces pressure during exhalation. This allows for a much more natural feeling of breathing while the patient sleeps. This also entails keeping the pressure at the lowest effective level of pressure possible to prevent apneas without hindering sleep.
SmartStart allows the patient to start therapy by breathing in, instead of pressing the ‘Start’ button. This is great so the patient does not need to move around after putting their mask on.
Control the AirMini from your smart device with the AirMini app via BlueTooth. Enjoy access to a range of comfort settings that will help you get a restful night’s sleep. The AirMini app also provides access to your sleep score each morning and 30-day history, so you can continue tracking your sleep on the go. Setting up the BlueTooth feature is not necessary to use the AirMini, but it can greatly add to overall experience by providing in-depth information about the patient’s therapy.
HumidX, a waterless humidification system, allows you to leave the distilled water at home and still enjoy the benefits of humidification. This is one of the best features of this product! The HumidX humidifier prevents the common problem of rainouts during therapy.

Advantages and Disadvantages
– It’s TINY [5.4 x 3.3 x 2 in]! 65% of CPAP users said device size is the #1 reason they don’t take their CPAP every time they travel. Good thing the AirMini can fit in the palm of your hand.
– Uses waterless humidification – no need to be fearful about rainouts!
– Customizable; There are a variety of optional accessories available to help make therapy on-the-go even easier
– Auto-adjusting pressure, using Expiratory Pressure Relief – adding another layer of comfort.
– Sleep onset detection – the machine starts with a lower pressure to help you get to sleep more comfortably.
– Pretty quiet. At 30 decibels, ActiveAir caps the airflow while still increasing air pressure. That’s the level of noise of a quiet rural area!
– The biggest disadvantage is that it doesn’t come with a portable battery (hence, my 70% rating for battery). On top of that, the wall plug is relatively big. This may potentially be annoying if you’re using a travel adaptor of some sort.
– This AirMini isn’t compatible with many mask products in the market – it is currently only compatible with the AirFit P10 Nasal Pillows Mask, AirFit N20 Nasal Mask, and the AirFit F20 Full Face Mask.
– It may give off some plastic odors for those with sensitive noses.
– It’s not cheap. However, definitely worth its value.
Comfort, comfort, and comfort. The AirMini does everything to make the user experience as cozy as possible. There are some small downsides here and there, with the biggest downside being the lack of portable battery, but overall, I’d say the advantages greatly outweigh them.
How does the AirMini compare with it’s competitor products?
Aside from being 280% heavier than the AirMini, the DreamStation has features that closely parallel those of the AirMini. On top of that, the DreamStation can be charged, and be used for up to 2 days that way. It can also be connected to pretty much any CPAP cord and/or mask, because it is equipped with a standard sized blower. The DreamStation is a very close competitor to the AirMini, losing in weight/size, but winning in battery portability and mask universality.
2. Z1 Auto CPAP
The Z1 Auto is cord free! However, it will only charge for one night’s sleep – which could get annoying, since you’ll have to remember to charge it every day. However, this problem could be offset by purchasing a power shell. It’s also much cheaper than the AirMini. And similar to the AirMini, it can be linked with a phone app using Bluetooth, and is quiet. However, aside from the points mentioned above, the AirMini seems to be superior in features and design. A decent substitute if you’re on a budget, though!
Although it weighs 1.5x more than the AirMini, it has similar features: it adjusts pressure accordingly during your sleep, data can be tracked (though it uses a USB as opposed to Bluetooth), and is similar in quietness. It is also compatible with any mask. I think this is a pretty good cheaper alternative for the AirMini, or at least more so than the Z1 auto.
To sum up, the AirMini beats the other three products with its waterless humidification feature and its lightness. However, the Z1 Auto/DreamStation Go both have the portable battery option, and the Z1 Auto/Transcend Auto Mini are cheaper.
What do others think about the ResMed AirMini?
“There is huge demand for a CPAP that’s easier to travel with. Not only have my patients asked me for it, they already trust the therapy they get from ResMed, so I know AirMini is going to be hugely popular. It’ll benefit my patients as well as our business.”

Finally a CPAP Machine for the frequent traveler. I have used a CPAP for over 30 years and most of those were spent carrying much larger devices to ensure I slept well on the road. The set-up was easy and love the App feature that scores the quality of you night’s sleep. Way to go ResMed!
– John F. / TN
“As a healthcare professional and a person with sleep apnea, I am in love with the AirMini. Traveling with my CPAP machine has been a hassle, given its weight and size. I look forward to being able to carry my AirMini in my purse.”
– Vickie B. / WI
I upgraded to this from an HDM Z1. And it is a major upgrade. This machine is actually quiet just like my machine at home. The HDM sounds like a little jet engine. It is smaller than the HDM too.
